Because it is shaped like a noodle, most people call it noodles from Italy although many other pasta variants are shaped like noodles. Like pasta in general, spaghetti is made from wheat milled and water. Italian spaghetti is made of durum wheat semolina, but elsewhere it can be made with other types of flour.

Initially the size of the spaghetti was very long, but then the shorter the more popular during the second half of the 20th century and now the most widely available spaghetti in the length of 25-30 cm (10-12 in). Some variants of pasta dishes come from this type of pasta as a base.
