Maasdam is
a Dutch cheese made with Emmental cheese from Switzerland. This cheese is
produced using pasteurized cow's milk. Maasdam cheese was first made in 1990
and is an alternative to Emmental cheese because it is an expensive cheese at
that time.
When compared with Emmental
cheese Maasdam cheese has a higher moisture and is therefore softer. Maasdam
cheese ripening process is faster than other Dutch cheeses. It only takes 4 to
12 weeks to finish this cheese.
The taste of the sweet
Maasdam cheese makes it often used as a snack or eaten for breakfast. The
inside of this cheese is pale yellow and there are large sized holes. Maasdam
cheese sold in several brands namely Bergumer, Meerlander, Westberg and
Leerdammer.
