Leerdammer is one of the Dutch Maasdam cheese versions produced using pasteurized cow's milk. In addition to Leerdammer, Maasdam cheese is also sold under other brands such as Ronduer, Goyweter, and Fricotal. Leerdammer cheese is produced in the Zuid-Holland area.


This cheese has in common with Emmental cheese in terms of the large number of holes in the cheese inside. However, the volume of this cheese is smaller than that of Swiss Emmental cheeses. According to legend, cheese maker experts want to make cheese like Gouda cheese but has a flavor like Emmental cheese.


Finally created Leerdammer cheese. This cheese has a faster maturation time compared to Gouda cheese or Emmental cheese. The weight of this cheese ranges from 6 to 12 kilograms. The Leerdammer cheese has a thin, yellow skin that is protected by an evening substance.
