Mainzer cheese was first made by the wife of a rancher in the town of Gross-Gerau in 1820. The weight of this cheese is only 1 to 7 ounces. Mainzer cheese has a round shape, thin skin and a surface filled with white mushrooms. This cheese is suitable to eat with rye bread or salad.
