Vada
Pav,
with the alternative spelling of Vada Pao, Wada Pav, or Wada Pao, is a
traditional vegetarian fast food dish from one of India's Maharashtra states.
This dish consists of mashed potatoes printed flat like a burger patty and then
fried, which is then put into pieces of bread (pav) that almost meet half the bread.
Usually this dish comes with one or more chutney (fruit sauce) and a piece of
green chili. It comes from cheap street food in Mumbai, but is now served in
food stalls and restaurants all over India. It is also called Bombay Burger
according to its origins and its physical resemblance to a burger.
