Banchan or panchan are side dishes in Korean culinary tradition. A wide variety of banchan are served on small plates to be eaten by several people. One of the most common banchan types is kimchi.

Banchan is served in small portions with the intention to be consumed one meal. The more formal a banquet, the more different the banchan is served. Compared to other areas, the type of banchan served in Jeolla Province is more varied.
