Tanghulu or
bingtanghulu are traditional Chinese fruit sweets. This sweetie is usually available in various
cities in China, such as Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai. This candied fruit is
served by means of a bamboo stalk that is about 20cm long. These snacks can be
found along the streets of Beijing which specialize in snack foods, Wangfujing,
or the seller also sometimes door-to-door selling.

Tanghulu has a hard coating
of sugar because it is dipped into a sugar syrup. However, now there is also a
dipped in chocolate or sprinkled sesame. Usually the fruit used is Chinese
hawthorn (山楂 shānzhā), but now also used various other fruits such as
cherry tomatoes, mandarin oranges, strawberries, blueberries, pineapples, kiwi
fruit, bananas, or grapes.
