Pitha (ପିଠା ପିଠା, ପିଠା, Assam: পিঠা, Bengali: পিঠা piṭha), (Sanskrit: पिष्टा, अपूप) or ​​fita (Sylheti) is a kind of pastry from the eastern Indian subcontinent, especially in Bangladesh as well as in Odisha, Assam, Bengal West, Jharkhand and Bihar in India. Pitha can be fried, baked, boiled or roasted (depending on the type of pitha to be made). Pitha is usually eaten for breakfast or as a snack (along with tea), although there is also a sweet pitha made as a dessert.
