Latah is
a physical state in which the patient spontaneously issues a response (in the
form of words or phrases and often accompanied by body movements) to a voice or
movement that shocks the patient. So far, talkative is found only in Southeast
Asian cultures and people, especially Indonesia and Malaysia. Therefore, latah
is considered as a special cultural syndrome.
