Hwajeon is
one type of jeon (pancake) cooked with flowers. The tradition of consuming
hwajeon is called kkot darim, which literally means "making flowers".
In the 3rd month of the Lunar calendar (around April), when the azalea flowers
(jindalae) bloom, the lids are used to beautify the pancake. Making the hwajeon
is a hereditary tradition at the samjinnal, the 3rd day of the 3rd month of the
lunar calendar.
