butterkuchen -

Butterkuchen ("butter cake") or Zuckerkuchen ("sugar cake") is a German cake made from Hefeteig (sweet yeast dough). At the top is given a hole with the fingers and coated it with butter and a sprinkling of almond and sugar. 

This cake is popular as a feast at weddings or death especially in northern Germany and Westfalen. This cake is sometimes called Freud und Leidkuchen ("the cake of happiness and sympathy") or Beerdigungskuchen ("funeral cake").
