Sujebi is a Korean dish of soup
broth with dumplings. Dumplings are made from sticky wheat flour.
The dumpling dough is shaped into small pieces and put into the sauce
(soy sauce) or miyeokguk (seaweed soup). As contents can be added pumpkin,
potatoes, kimchi and so on. Tradisinya, in ancient times sujebi enjoyed during
the summer by the nobles and lower classes.
Poor farmers consume them when their rice and cholesterol supply runs
out. At Chilseok on the 7th day of the 7th month of the traditional calendar,
Koreans will eat wheat flour dishes like sujebi. After this date it is believed
that all wheat is no longer good for consumption.
