sorrow -

Sorrow or Nengahsa is an emotion characterized by feelings of disadvantage, loss, and helplessness. When sad, humans often become more silent, less enthusiastic, and withdraw. Sorrow can also be seen as a temporary mood swings, whereas depression is often characterized by a persistent and large mood swings that are sometimes accompanied by disruption to a person's ability to perform his daily activities. Crying is one indication of sadness.

Sorrow is the opposite of happiness or joy and similar to sorrow or misery.
