Rabies etymology

The word rabies comes from the ancient Sanskrit rabhas which means to commit violence / evil. In Greek, rabies is called Lyssa or Lytaa which means madness. In German, rabies is called tollwut derived from the Indojerman language Dhvar which means destructive and wut which means angry. In French, rabies called rage comes from the noun robere which means to be insane.
